I have been a bookworm for most of my life, but since the world has gone into lockdown I have devoured book after book. I can just as easily lose myself in the light works of Jojo Moyes or have my understanding be turned upside down by the wisdom of Tim Keller.
For me, reading is simultaneously an escape and a journey.
And I would love to share this journey with you.
I have decided to start a book club!
In this book club, we will explore books by well-renowned authors who will take us on a journey of discovery, and hopefully, to a better understanding of our faith.
Nettie’s book club will launch on 1 September 2021 with our first study.
It is with great excitement that I announce that our first book will be:
The Gospel According to Satan: Eight Lies about God that Sound Like the Truth by Jared C. Wilson.
From the book jacket:
Not every lie sounds untrue.
Some lies are repeated so often they seem to be common sense. That’s why lies about God are so dangerous. The Gospel According to Satan examines eight lies the enemy wants us to believe and provides eight lines of counterattack against them. The lies include:
- God just wants you to be happy;
- you only live once;
- you need to live your truth; and
- just let go and let God.
You can buy “The Gospel According to Satan” at all good bookstores but here are some links to get you started:
CUM Books (The book is on sale now for R190)
Although an audiobook is available – I would highly recommend that you read this book as you will want to highlight and return to the text to truly make the wisdom your own.
Once you’ve signed up for the book club make sure you join our dedicated Facebook page to ensure that you do not miss anything:
The format of the book club will be as follows:
- A new post per e-mail and social media on Mondays and Fridays;
- with a virtual book club meeting (bring your own wine) on Thursday evenings at 19:00.
I am looking forward to digging into the lies we have adopted as truth so that we can counter the attack of Satan while spreading the truth with love.
See you soon!
Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to any of the books studied by Nettie’s Book Club. I am not profiting from the sale of these books. I will carefully select books that have had a significant impact on my faith. My goal is simply to share the wisdom in these books with others so we can assess and apply the wisdom of these authors to grow in understanding of our faith together.
