My Blog Baby Turns One

I once heard a mother remark that the biggest reason for celebrating her toddler’s birthday is that she managed to keep her child alive for another year. That is almost how I feel about my blog baby. This weekend I celebrate one year of Nettie’s Confetti! I can’t believe I made it to one year while simultaneously being very proud of publishing twelve months of consistent, meaningful contents. One year ago my brother-in-law challenged me to start a blog in a week. From scratch! I didn’t have a website or a name or a cooking clue how to go about blogging. I didn’t even know what I would write about. But I went on to Udemy and started a course on blogging while eating the elephant bite by small bite. One year later I can proudly look back on this labour of love that is still going strong.

By the grace of God, I managed to publish 46 posts, including three Bible Studies, a blog makeover and a few daring confessions about my struggles and challenges. I never thought I would be able to be so vulnerable and pour my heart out publicly, but after the most daring posts, I received a surprising number of “me too!” messages which kept me going when it became really tough. I went live on Facebook and posted more stories on Instagram than I ever have in my lifetime.

I wrote about joy, fear and faith.

I shared my deepest pain about trying to grow our family.

I celebrated the people I love and many other festivities.

We’ve been on adventures together.

I processed a global pandemic by putting my feelings on paper.

I exposed my insecurities about my body and working towards a healthy new normal.

I exposed the cracks in my faith which is filling up but very fragile.

I gave you a glimpse in to my soul.

I could not have done any of this without the unrelenting support of my band of awesome “Top Fans.” My husband kept me motivated when I wanted to give up. My family encouraged me with how the posts touched them and even sent me photos of their masked faces for a post. My friends, near and far, old and new, kept reading and sharing every post. Thank you to each and every one of you. I might not have a large audience, but I have the most engaged and beloved readers.

The goal for this first year was just to start this blog and keep it going consistently. Now I want to look ahead to what this blog can become and dream of a day when all this effort and love can supplement our household income to build our future. Maybe one day I will even get to write a book? Who knows? It’s all in God’s hands and his hands are all over this precious blog. I am excited to see what he will do with this little corner of the web.

I hope you are still enjoying my rantings and reflections and finding inspiration in every post. May this blog be the light which gives you a glimpse of the Father’s glory.
