Let’s get this party started!

Why would anyone in their right mind start anything new in November?

This time of year, Boney M is warming up while the Christmas decorations glitter in the shopping malls. In the southern hemisphere, we can almost smell the ocean and feel the sand between our toes as we dream of the summer holidays around the corner.

Most people are winding down and leaving new ventures to the New Year (and new decade).

And I am starting a blog. Finally.

I have been meaning to start a blog since I saw the movie Julie and Julia where the modern-day Julie writes a blog about trying out all of Julia Childโ€™s recipes in her notorious cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking. So why start now after 10 years? Firstly, Rachel Hollis told me to in her #last90daychallenge (disclaimer: she has no idea who I am) and then my brother in law set a strict deadline to challenge me.

Secondly, and most significantly, 2019 was one of the toughest years I can remember. I canโ€™t recall another twelve-month period in my life that is filled with more loss, disappointment, and heartache than this one. I feel like I have lost control over my body and my mind, and even with the toughest diet and most rigorous exercise regime, I cannot find my old self again.

But I can write. I can share my thoughts. I can start something I have been dreaming of and telling people about for an embarrassingly long time.

Truth be told if I knew how hard it was going to be to get to the point of publishing your first post I might have procrastinated even longer. But now the hardest part is done.

Maybe it will be therapeutic. Maybe it will make this year count for something meaningful. And maybe, just maybe, it will help to truly celebrate every day with faith so I can also say with Apostle Paul: โ€œI have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.โ€ Phil 4:12-13)
